What Our Community Members Say

I am an autistic self-advocate and autism researcher that has partnered with AFO and participated in their programming for many years. Because of AFO I have spoken at multiple autism advocacy days, participated in social events, spoken on their podcast, and am even in the documentary Surviving the Spectrum. Through AFO I have made wonderful friends and have had an opportunity to share my story and talk about things that are important to me as an autistic person and researcher. I feel seen and uplifted. I am so thankful for AFO and the work they do to support autistic Oklahomans and their families like me.

Being a part of AFO means I have something to look forward to every month. The hospitality lets me connect with like-minded people that I would struggle to find anywhere else. In a time when it couldn't be anymore harder to make friends as an adult, AFO serves as an oasis of friendly people who are both understanding and friendly. I love that we accept everyone with open arms. I believe anyone who is struggling with their identity or connecting with others would have a fantastic opportunity here. There's a lot of different events we do, and they're all fun and enjoyable. There's no better organization for autistic adults like me than at the AFO meetups.

Sisu is proud to be an inclusive and affirming employer and we welcome individuals of all abilities who are dedicated to ending youth homelessness in OKC. Our team greatly benefited from the LEAD – Neurodiversity in the Workplace training and we are excited to be able to better support our staff and clients. Partnerships like these empower us to create a more equitable and supportive future for our community.

-Rachel Bradley, Executive Director of Sisu

Being a part of AFO has been so important to me. I've been able to find friendship and meet like-minded individuals in the area. It's been great to have a space to unmask in and not feel the social pressure of masking and fitting in. As a recently diagnosed individual, I have found a true sense of community with AFO. Even with lower support needs, I feel like this group helps support all individuals on the spectrum. We all feel included and encouraged by AFO and what they've done for all of us.
